Bus Stops
Bamford Lane, Kirwan – Bus Stop Installation

Townsville City Council plans to install a new bus stop along Bamford Lane, adjacent to 2 Birrahlee Crescent, Kirwan.
Upgrading bus stops across the city offers numerous benefits, including improved safety, increased accessibility, and an enhanced overall passenger experience.
Accessibility improvements, such as tactile ground surface indicators and compliant boarding areas, make public transport more usable for everyone, including people with disability.
As part of this project, Council will:
- construct a new concrete slab and associated section of footpath
- install a seat and shelter
- install a J Pole and disability signage
- install tactile indicators and refurbish pavement markings
- reconstruct an associated section of road pavement and kerb and channel.

Coastal Management
Dreamtime Court, Toomulla Beach – Minor Maintenance Works

Council is undertaking minor maintenance and connectivity improvement works in an area of open space adjacent to the foreshore near Dreamtime Court in Toomulla.
This project is part of Council’s ongoing commitment towards environmental management, which has identified the need for maintenance works to enhance community assets and maintain open spaces in good condition, supporting regional growth.
As part of this project, Council will:
- remove and replace the existing stairs and bollards with new concrete stairs and a handrail
- revegetation works will be undertaken to rehabilitate the site of the old stairs
- Council staff will oversee and manage any environmental impacts resulting from these operations.

Foreshores, Rowes Bay and Pallarenda – Coastal Management Works

Council is undertaking coastal management works, which involve reshaping the sand along the foreshore that is most vulnerable to erosion. This work also includes enhanced maintenance for the beach access paths along the foreshore from Rowes Bay to Pallarenda.
This project is part of Council’s ongoing commitment towards environmental management, which has identified the need for coastal management initiatives to address and mitigate the effects of erosion caused by recent weather events.
As part of this project, Council will
- undertake placement of sand to the most vulnerable sections of the foreshore for better stability and to protect assets
- Council staff will oversee and manage any environmental impacts resulting from these operations.

Drainage
Currawong Street, Condon – Drainage Retaining Wall Renewal Works

Council is undertaking a retaining wall renewal and associated maintenance work on a section of fencing within the drainage easement between 16 Currawong Street and 18 Currawong Street in Condon.
This project is part of Council’s Capital Projects program, which ensures that Council controlled road and access networks remain well maintained, meet community’s connectivity needs, and support the ongoing growth of our region.
As part of this project, Council will:
- remove and replace the concrete retaining wall with a new, fit-for purpose retaining wall
- rehabilitate the site, ensuring the new retaining wall ties in neatly with the drainage easement connection.

Environmental Restoration
Abbott Street Saltmarsh, Oonoonba – Environmental Restoration

Council is continuing restoration and improvement works within the Abbott Street Saltmarsh, Oonoonba. These efforts aim to mitigate the impact of human activities that compromise the saltmarsh’s ability to function as a healthy ecosystem and a valuable natural
asset within our urban environment.
As part of this commitment and the broader project delivery, Council is installing rock boulders and repairing or installing fencing at
designated access points to prevent unauthorised entry into the saltmarsh.
Works will include:
- implementing vehicle exclusion barriers using natural rock boulders
- repairing and/or installing new rail fencing

Sherriff and Archery Park, Mundingburra – Riverine Site Maintenance

Townsville City Council is undertaking environmental restoration maintenance works along the riverbank to the Ross River within Sherriff and Archery Parks, Mundingburra.
Council began these works in October 2024. We expect maintenance weeding, mulching, and planting to take four months to complete and low-impact maintenance weeding to occur periodically until June 2026.
Council proposes dividing the site into two sections, restricting pedestrian access, and directing pedestrians to an alternative route.
We will close the pedestrian path within each section along the riverbank to suit works progress over the two week period.
Section one is from Sherriff Park to the Mabin Street Park entrance. Section two is from Mabin Street to the midpoint of Archery Park. You can still access the area through the Mabin Street park entrance.
Council will use safety bollards and flagging to mark the work areas and to ensure public safety.

Event Road Closures
Sooning Street, Nelly Bay – Sooning Street Bridge Closure

Recent heavy rainfall has damaged culverts under the bridge crossing Gustav Creek on Sooning Street and due to community safety concerns Council has closed the bridge.
A preliminary engineering assessment has been conducted and further investigations are required.
Council endeavours to have this additional inspection, and any necessary repairs completed as quickly as possible.
A detour is currently in place via Kelly St, Barton St and Mandalay Ave as signed to access Nelly Bay.
Kennedy Street, North Ward – AFCM Queens Gardens

Pedestrian Bridge, Alma Bay – Site Remediation

Following the removal of the concrete bridge deck, Council intends to clean up the site by clearing debris from the southern abutment of the bridge.
As part of these works, Council will undertake maintenance works to the demolished bridge abutments.

1A Tooth Street, Balgal Beach – Boat Ramp Closure and Repair

Expected duration: The damaged pontoon walkway is expected to be repaired within two weeks & further investigations are required to determine the timeframe for the boat ramp closure.
Normal work hours: 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. Some out of hours work in the evening or on a Sunday may be required to progress the repair works more quickly around tide times.
The Balgal Beach boat ramp is now closed for essential repair work to the ramp and pontoon walkway, which were damaged during flooding events earlier this year.
We appreciate your patience while this work is completed – alternative boat ramp locations in the northern beaches area include:
- Toomulla
- Bluewater
- Stoney Creek (Mt Low)
The works will include:
- damaged pontoon walkway will be repaired by Council’s contractors over the next two weeks
- damaged upstream section of the boat ramp will need further inspection and allow for the repair works to be
undertaken.

Stanley Street & Castle Hill Road, Townsville City – Slope Remediation

Following recent pre-wet and post-wet season inspections of Townsville inner city slope stability, Townsville City Council plans to undertake rockfall protection and slope stabilisation remedial works along the Stanley Street cutting and Castle Hill Road.
This project is part of Council's ongoing management of the heritage reserve and an outcome of our Castle Hill Reserve Emergency Management Plan (CHREMP).
The CHREMP describes the processes and controls designed to ensure Council's compliance with its statutory obligations and to mitigate the risk of identified hazards to people, property, and the natural environment.
As part of these works, Council will:
- remove unstable portions of the slope
- shape the remaining slope to a consistent grade
- install rock dowels, soil nails and rockfall mesh
- apply shotcrete as required.

Corner of Woodstock Avenue and Jones Road, Woodstock – Site Office Construction

Council will be carrying out work to upgrade the intersection of Jones Road and No Name Road at Woodstock. Delivered by civil contractor BMD Constructions, this is part of enabling infrastructure works for the Lansdown Eco-industrial Precinct. To support this work, a temporary site office will be established.
Works will include:
- clearing of vegetation and installation of a new permanent property boundary fence
- temporary establishment of site compound facilities including site offices, generator for power, toilet facilities, fencing and vehicle car parking.
BMD will have security measures in place to keep the site secure. Vehicles will access the site office from Jones Road.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government, in association with Townsville City Council.

Townsville City Council plans to undertake renewal works for sewer maintenance holes in your area.
This project will extend the service life of existing infrastructure and enhance the reliability and efficiency of the city's wastewater network.
Council has appointed Interflow Pty Ltd to carry out this project on our behalf.
To proceed with these works, Council may require access to clean the sewer maintenance hole and the associated wastewater pipeline within and adjacent to your property boundary.
As part of these works, Council will:
- clean sewer maintenance holes and wastewater pipes within your property boundary
- rehabilitate sewer infrastructure
- restore any disturbed area upon completion of the work.

This project is part of Council’s ongoing commitment towards environmental management, which has identified the need for maintenance works to mitigate the effects of ongoing erosion and enhance the creeks resilience.
As part of this project, Council will:
- stabilising eroded creek banks with concrete blocks to minimise erosion
- Council staff will oversee and manage any environmental impacts resulting from these operations.

Railway Estate, Condon, Burdell – Wastewater Pumpstation Renewal Program

Townsville City Council plans to renew the pipework, liners, and associated infrastructure of three wastewater pump stations in Condon, Burdell, and Railway Estate.
This program of works will extend the service life of the existing infrastructure and enhance the reliability and efficiency of the city's wastewater network.
We anticipate work at each site to take three (3) to four (4) months to complete:
- Seventh Street – three (3) months
- Bowhunters Road – three (3) months
- Kayleen Court – four (4) months.
As part of these works, Council will:
- supply and install replacement sewerage pipework and concrete structures
- rehabilitate sewer infrastructure
- restore any disturbed area upon completion of the work.

Ring Road, Douglas – Fencing Maintenance Works

Townsville City Council is replacing 280 meters of deteriorated timber fencing between Riverside Boulevard and The Ring Road in Douglas.
Council is delivering these works as part of our Road Maintenance Performance Contract within the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR).
Additionally, approximately 500 meters of neighbouring DTMR fencing along The Ring Road will undergo maintenance to extend its lifespan.
Works to be carried out:
- remove the existing 1.8-meter-high fence and installing a new, 2-meter high, double paled timber fence
- replacing damaged palings and corroded posts and installing bracing where necessary

Ross River Dam, Kelso – Engineering Renewal Works

Council is undertaking engineering renewal works including associated infrastructure maintenance on the Ross River Dam spillway gates, in Kelso.
This project is part of Council’s annual infrastructure maintenance program, which aims to maintain our Council controlled assets including water networks to ensure the community’s needs are adequately met and continue to support the growth of our region.
As part of this project, Council will:
- remove and replace the hydraulic rams that control the dam’s spillway gates
- undertake a detailed assessment of the gates and associated infrastructure and carry out remediation work to ensure the dam remains safe and operates optimally.

Yarrawonga Drive, Castle Hill – Retaining Wall Stabilisation

Normal work hours: Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm.
Council plans to improve the stability of the existing retaining wall bordering properties 2, 4, 6, and 8 Yarrawonga Drive.
Works will involve inserting several pins (otherwise known as soil nails) into the wall and applying shotcrete to its exterior for increased support.
Council plans to restore the surface using a 'mock rock' finish, similar to the recent repairs to retaining walls in Orana Court, Castle Hill. The accompanying photo is for illustrative purposes only.
During construction, traffic closures will occur daily during working hours, 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
A detour will be in place to divert traffic via alternate access if required.
As part of this project, Council will:
- Install soil nails into the existing retaining wall
- Restore the concrete retaining wall face.

Yule Street, Picnic Bay – Picnic Bay Reservoir Roof Replacement

Council is replacing the roof of the Picnic Bay Reservoir, which provides potable water for Picnic Bay and parts of Magnetic Island.
To install the new roof, a crane will be used, and Ergon will temporarily disconnect nearby power lines for safety. The few affected properties will be notified in advance of any power outages or disruptions.
Local contractor A. Gabrielli Constructions is undertaking the work on behalf of the Council.
Works will include:
- removal of existing reservoir roof
- construction of new roof and associated framing, structure, and linings
- installation of ventilators, access ladders, and an access platform
- the disconnection of power lines, causing two power outages on separate days, two weeks apart, affecting only a small number of local properties.
- the first single-day shutdown will be on Tuesday 11 March 2025
- the second single-day shutdown will be on Tuesday 3 April 2025
- Ergon will be notifying the properties that will be affected.

Hazard Reduction Burns

Council undertakes hazard reduction burns throughout the dry season each year as part of Council’s Bushfire Management Plan, to prevent the spread of bushfire and protect lives, property and infrastructure. These controlled burns reduce the build-up of flammable fuel loads such as leaf litter, grasses and shrubs.
A series of hazard reduction burns will take place across the city between May and October, as outlined below. Please note that all burns are subject to weather conditions.

Council is undertaking kerb and channel renewal works, along with associated road pavement upgrades, on Ramsay Street between Chandler Street and Clarke Street, in Garbutt.
This project is part of our annual kerb and channel renewal program, which aims to address structural deficiencies and improve overall drainage in our Council controlled road network to enhance safety, reduce maintenance costs and improve the quality of life for residents.
What will the works include?
- remove and replace the kerb and channel along the even-numbered side of Ramsay Street, as indicated on the project consultation graphic below.
- remove and replace identified property driveway crossovers as indicated
- replacement of the removed road pavement with new asphalt.

Townsville City Council is preparing to commence Part Two of Phase Three of this project.
This phase involves upgrading the pathway on the northern side of Gregory Street fronting Tide Café, Hartley Partners, and Osk Bar. These activities involve a combination of day and night work, with most of the excavation and preparation work taking place at night.
As part of this phase, Council plans to undertake a test water shutoff along Eyre Street, which will cause a temporary disruption to the water supply for approximately one hour at midnight on Thursday 24 July 2025.
Additionally, a further water disruption will occur on Wednesday 6 August 2025, from 11pm to 5am. These activities will affect Domino's, McDonald's and Grandma's along Eyre Street, as well as the Northward Shopping Precinct, including Coles.
As part of the pathway works along Gregory Street, Council will:
- remove existing pavers
- excavate and prepare paths
- set-up form work for concrete pours
- pour concrete.
Water works will include:
- temporarily shutting off the water supply
- isolating the water main and undertaking cut- ins
- reinstating the water service.
When Council restores the water supply, it may initially appear discoloured. To address this, run taps until the discolouration disappears.
Furthermore, we recommend turning off automatic machines that utilise water in their operation during this time.

As a result of this work, the road configuration at this intersection will be permanently changed to allow the safe and efficient operation of traffic into and out of the precinct from Jones Road.

Murray Street, North Ward – Road Maintenance and Utility Service Upgrades

With culvert works now complete, Townsville City Council still plans to undertake roadworks and utility service upgrades along Murray Street, between Gregory and Stokes Streets, North Ward.
However, in the interest of safety, this stage of the project is on pause as Council prioritises slope remediation works along Stanley Street and Castle Hill Road before the next wet season.
Preliminary works will commence from November 2025. Construction crews may not be on-site full-time while we undertake preliminary works.
Roadworks are anticipated to commence from March 2026. Works are expected to take three (3) months to complete, weather permitting.

Council’s Principal Arborist recently conducted an inspection of all trees located along the road and pathway corridors throughout Magnetic Island.
Maintenance work will be carried out on all designated trees. This includes the removal of identified branches and associated foliage to prevent obstruction of streetlights or hazards to roadways and pedestrian walkways.
Works will include removal of the tree branches and mulching. Council arborists will oversee complete landscape maintenance to ensure the health and growth of the trees, preventing further damage to infrastructure and community safety.

Queens Gardens, Gregory Street, North Ward – Tree Removal

The entrance to Queens Gardens on Gregory Street is currently closed to foot traffic following a significant limb failure in a Milky Pine (Alstonia scholaris) located within the gardens.
Upon inspection, Council arborists identified internal decay and fungal growth compromising the structural integrity of the tree. Due to the high risk posed to the public, the tree was deemed unviable for retention and will be removed in the interest of community safety.
Council regularly inspects trees in parks and gardens across the city. Where trees are assessed to be unsafe, appropriate remedial action or removal is carried out in line with Council’s Public Tree Management Policy.
Initial tree removal works will take place on Monday 21 July, with temporary road closures expected from the week commencing 28 July for up to one (1) day to complete final works.
We understand the important role trees play in our parks and appreciate the community’s understanding as we prioritise public safety.
The works will include:
- removal of the tree and mulching
- suitable replacement trees will be planted near the removed tree to replace the equivalent lost canopy cover.
If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:
- machinery and vehicle movement
- increased levels of dust, noise, and vibrations
- footpath closures and detours
- temporary traffic changes, including lane and or on-street parking closures, minor traffic delays and reduced speed limits.
