Hazard Reduction Burns
Council is committed to ensuring the safety of our community, with a dedicated Emergency Management team planning for natural hazards and undertaking strategic measures to mitigate the associated risks.
Council conducts hazard reduction burns during the dry season each year as part of Council’s Bushfire Management Plan, to prevent the spread of bushfire and protect lives, property, and infrastructure. These controlled burns reduce the build-up of flammable fuel loads such as leaf litter, grasses, and shrubs.
Council’s hazard reduction burn program is conducted in partnership with various organisations, depending on the burn location, including:
- Queensland Fire and Emergency Services
- Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services
- Department of Resources
- Department of Defence.
New Bushfire Management Drone Technology
Council has recently acquired an advanced heavy-lift bushfire management drone thanks to funding from the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant. Designed for delivering water drums to hard-to-reach areas, this cutting-edge technology will be a game changer in our bushfire mitigation program. By revolutionising the way we conduct hazard reduction burns in places like Castle Hill, Mount Stuart, Mount Louisa, and Wulguru, this drone will play a crucial role in safeguarding our community against bushfires.
