Parents of Townsville’s newest residents are encouraged to register their little bundles of joy for the 20th anniversary of the Welcoming Babies Ceremony to be held at Queen’s Gardens in conjunction with the Eco Fiesta on May 29.

Registrations are now open for the ceremony to be held at Raintree Lawn off Kennedy Lane – the first session starting at 8.30am.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the Welcoming Babies Ceremony had become a lovely tradition with the 20th anniversary a special reminder of community spirit.

“Welcoming Babies brings the community together with a special bond for the families and their precious newborns,” Cr Doyle said.

“The formal welcome is an exciting opportunity for new parents and their family to join in celebration.

"If you have recently welcomed a new baby into your family, I would encourage you to register and join in on the great celebration with family and friends whilst exploring the Eco Fiesta."

Each baby welcomed will receive a welcoming certificate, a plant and a gift bag. The baby must be 13 months old or younger to be registered for this event.

In 2015 the city welcomed 98 babies at its Welcoming Babies Ceremonies.
