Billboard competition to spread water wise message

School students will see their artwork larger than life with council this week launching its National Water Week billboard design competition.

Townsville primary and high schools are invited to participate in the creative project that focusses on water conservation messages.

Five winning designs (two primary schools, two secondary schools and one graphic design category winner) will be displayed on five separate billboards across the city for three months.

Townsville Water and Waste Committee chair Cr Paul Jacob said this competition was a great way to get school students thinking about water conservation.

“This is a very creative way for children to be included in the conversation,” Cr Jacob said.

“It’s important for the youngest members of our community to learn about the importance of saving such a valuable resource, especially at a time when we are in drought.

“I look forward to helping judge some of the creative artworks that come out of this and can’t wait to see the winning entries on billboards across the city.”

Each winning school will also receive $500 prize money.

To enter, schools need to fill out the online form by Friday, October 14 and send their water-themed design in to council by 5pm, Wednesday, October 19.
