Parasite detected in Paluma township raw water supply

Date published: 28 October 2016

Residents of the Paluma township are being asked to boil drinking water after tests confirmed a positive count of cryptosporidium in the raw water supply.

The Office of the Water Supply Regulator and Queensland Health has been notified.

Council will conduct letterbox drops to the affected properties this evening, is advising the education centres that cater for school camping groups and will place “non-potable water” signs on public taps.

Plans are also in place to erect an electronic message board at the base of the hill and both entries to the township.

Council’s Customer Service Centre will also be notified.

Three clear resamples are required before the boil water advice can be lifted.

Council staff will continue to monitor the water supply and keep residents informed with any updates.

The most common symptom of cryptosporidium is diarrhoea and gastro-like symptoms.

The boil water notice applies only to the Paluma Township. No other council water supply is impacted.
