Barra fingerlings to be released into Ross River Dam

Townsville City Council and Townsville Barramundi Restocking Group will be releasing Barramundi into the Ross River Dam.

The 20,000 fingerlings are planned for release into the Ross River Dam tomorrow and have been provided by a local supplier.

Division 4 Councillor Mark Molachino said the fingerling restocking program in the Ross River Dam is the first step in establishing more recreational activities on our waterways.

“These fish will have time to grow and mature while Council continues to plan for more activities in and around the Ross River Dam,” Cr Molachino said.

“We have to progress these plans carefully in water storage areas because our first concern has to be the supply of high-quality drinking water for our residents.

“We aren’t planning any further fish re-stocking until dam levels significantly increase. Council is hopeful for more recreational fishing opportunities on the Ross River Dam when water levels increase.”
