Magic and Muggles at CityLibraries' Harry Potter event

Date published: 22 June 2017

Townsville CityLibraries are celebrating 20 years of magic with a special Harry Potter themed event.

Join staff to celebrate the 20th anniversary of J.K. Rowling’s magical series with a screening of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at Thuringowa and Aitkenvale libraries on Monday, June 26 at 12pm.

The afternoon will also include Harry Potter themed activities including the chance to make a golden snitch and Luna Lovegood glasses.

Finish an activity and receive your Hogwarts acceptance letter and certificate or hunt for horcruxes around the library.

There are also lots of prizes on offer, including brand new special edition copies of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and a very cool Marauder’s Map.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said participants were encouraged to get into the spirit of the event and come in costume.

“We’d love to see our libraries full of people of all ages in costume,” Cr Doyle said.

“The Harry Potter books are a world-wide phenomenon and have helped to instil a love of reading in a whole generation of children.

“This event is just one of the great school holiday programs on offer this winter at CityLibraries branches.

“Come into the library, watch the movie and be a part of the activities.

“There’s always so much to see and do at our libraries – so much more than just borrowing books.”
