Exhibition gives bold and unique world view

Contemporary artworks from all over the world are being showcased in a bold and unique new touring exhibition opening at Perc Tucker Gallery tomorrow night.

A World View: The Tim Fairfax Gift is an eclectic collection of contemporary works that have been acquired by philanthropist Tim Fairfax for the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Councillor Colleen Doyle said the exhibition was an exciting showcase of works by renowned and emerging artists from all over the world.

“What makes this exhibition really special is that Tim Fairfax has ventured into new and somewhat unchartered territories to find work – places like Africa, South America and the Pacific,” Cr Doyle said.

“So there’s a lot of diversity in this exhibition with painting, photography, tapestry, sculpture, projections, and installations all with their own distinct style.”

The exhibition is one of the many major touring exhibitions hosted by Townsville City Council galleries, which bring art from all over the world to Townsville.

Cr Doyle said the exhibition gave locals a unique opportunity to see part of the impressive collection of art that Tim Fairfax has contributed to the QAGOMA Collection for Queenslanders.

“Tim Fairfax’s contribution to contemporary art in Queensland cannot be understated,” Cr Doyle said.

“He has done some amazing work in acquiring cutting edge pieces from all over the world for Queenslanders to enjoy as part of the QAGOMA collection.”

A World View: The Tim Fairfax Gift is showing at Perc Tucker Gallery from 9 March – 15 April 2018.
