Townsville City Council has adopted its 2017/18 Annual Report at Full Council today.

Strong financial management and red tape reduction has resulted in an underlying surplus of $2.8 million.

Chair of the Governance and Finance Committee Cr Verena Coombe said the Annual Report shows Council has laid a strong foundation for future growth and investment in our city.

“Council is dedicated to investing in the future of our city – that’s why we’re spending money on improving infrastructure, delivering on water security and creating jobs for locals,” Cr Coombe said.

“Last financial year proved to be a big one for Council with Festival 2018 – major progress has been made on the construction of the new water pipeline – due to be complete by the end of 2019 – the Local Disaster Coordination Centre and the North Queensland Stadium.

The Council Transformation program also resulted in $31.3 million in savings for ratepayers last financial year and included implementing 24 reforms as part of the Nous organisational structure review.

“This report is a testament to the strong financial management that has been a priority for Council – we are continually striving to improve how we do business for the benefit of our residents,” Cr Coombe said.
