Townsville encouraged to tap into Water Smart Package

Townsville City Council is urging residents and body corporates to register to be part of the $10 million Water Smart Package.
Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said the program will provide vouchers and rebates to secure water-saving products that will help residents become more water wise and reduce their bills.
“This is a fantastic package that allows renters, homeowners and even body corporates to secure vouchers or rebates for water saving products such as more efficient sprinkler systems, new washing machines or rainwater tanks,” Cr Cook said.
“There’s a huge range of eligible products available so please check it out and find something that’s right for you.”
The Water Smart Package will go live on July 15.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart echoed the Council's call to action and emphasised the savings and opportunities on offer to Townsville locals through the Water Smart Package.
"The Palaszczuk Government committed $10 million to this package to ensure the Townsville community has opportunities to save water and become water wise," Mr Stewart said.
"We committed a further $215 million to the pipeline and while the future water security of Townsville is assured, it is important that the community gets behind the Water Smart Package and takes advantage of the opportunities on offer."
Cr Cook said Council had recently put out a call for volunteers to receive 500 free smart water meters.
“There’s huge benefits to registering your interest to be part of the Water Smart Package,” Cr Cook said.
“The 500 households that will be selected for the free smart water meters will be able to view their water usage online and discover how to save water or detect leaks in real time.
“Registering your interest is the best way to secure either a voucher or rebate to receive
a free or heavily discounted water saving products.
“Importantly, the more households and body corporates that register, the more information Council has about what products will be most in demand.”
Cr Cook thanked the Queensland Government for contributing $10 million to fund the Water Smart package.
