Mosquito treatments continue across Townsville

Date published: 26 March 2019

Townsville City Council is continuing to treat mosquito hot spots across the city after crews detected an increase in larvae numbers.

Council crews will conduct ground treatments throughout today and tomorrow with aerial treatments of hard to reach areas beginning tomorrow.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said Council will continue to monitor mosquito larvae numbers.

“Council will continue to be proactive in managing mosquito numbers across the city and will be conducting treatments whenever increases are detected,” Cr Greaney said.

“Mosquito management is crucial particularly after the unprecedented monsoon, king tides and the rainfall we’re continuing to experience.

“We do ask residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing long clothing, using repellent and emptying any pooled water in their yards.”
