Townsville City Council has approved a grant of more than $16,000 to the Totally and Permanently Disabled Ex Servicepersons Association to continue the publication of its magazine The Bugle.

The grant will go towards the commercial printing and production costs of more than 400 copies each month.

Acting Townsville Mayor Les Walker said it The Bugle was an important part of Townsville’s veteran community.

“We live in a garrison city that has a strong community of ex-servicepeople,” Cr Walker said.

“Council is committed to providing support for veterans living in our community, and this grant will go a long way towards spreading positive messages to our local ex-servicepeople.”

Governance and Finance Committee Chairperson, Councillor Verena Coombe, said the monthly magazine provided plenty of important messages to Townsville’s veteran community.

“Council received the grant application between August and October during the quarterly grant funding round,” she said.

The Bugle provides up-to-date information and news on current issues, veteran benefits, health and services for veterans. This grant will help to keep this line of communication open for local veterans.”
