CBD parking is free but remember to obey the time limits

Townsville City Council is reminding the community that parking in the central business district (CBD) is free, but motorists must still respect the designated time limits for parking spaces.

Free CBD parking was announced on March 19 as part of a suite of measures aimed at supporting local businesses who are feeling the effects of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Council wants to make it as easy as possible for the community to access these local businesses.

Maintaining the time limits for parking spaces, particularly the 2-hour spaces closest to businesses, means there is a continued turnover of vehicles using these spaces which means better access for shoppers.

Council does not want a situation where CBD workers just move their vehicles closer to the city to park all day out the front of businesses. These vehicles should be parked in either the 4 or 8-hour parking spaces.

Short-term parking spaces support traders in the CBD. When these parks are taken all day it creates a disadvantage for people who have come in the city to shop or purchase take-away.
