Car bodies cleaned up

Townsville City Council water and waste committee chairperson Russ Cook has thanked a team of local companies that has removed 19 abandoned car bodies from Yabulu.

The joint effort between the TW Power Services (TWPS) team that operate the North Queensland Gas Pipeline (NQGP), Townsville Earth Moving (TEM) and Townsville Handi Skips helped remove the car bodies and multiple scrap parts from land just off Greenvale St.

Councillor Cook said it was a great gesture of goodwill from the NQGP and TWPS.

“We live in a beautiful part of the world, but unfortunately a small number of people choose to dump and burn cars illegally,” he said.

“Thankfully these car bodies will be taken to be recycled which means they will not only be removed from the area, but will hopefully have a second life after being recycled.”

The NQGP is a 370km natural gas pipeline that runs from Moranbah to Townsville supplying Townsville Power Station as well as other industrial customers.

Pipeline Supervisor Anatol Stremouchiw said the TWPS team that operated the pipeline took great pride in looking after the land that the pipeline occupies and being engaged with the communities that it passes through.

“All of our team are employed full time locally and have been part of the Townsville region for many years. We are committed to the community and are actively engaging with private and corporate stakeholders and landowners. We take pride in our work and want to keep great relationships with the people whose land we access,” Mr Stremouchiw said.

Cr Cook said it was great to see local companies supporting the Townsville community.

“Landowners in the area will be very pleased to have these dumped cars removed from the area,” he said.

“We all have a part to play to keep our city looking wonderful, and seeing these companies step up is a prime example of how local businesses continue to support our local region.”
