Pencil in dates for free pet microchipping

Date published: 3 February 2021

Does your dog or cat need to be microchipped? Townsville City Council is providing an opportunity every month to get your pet microchipped for free.

Council runs an appointment-only free microchipping program for registered dogs and approved cats across Townsville, with the dates for the next five months now available to pencil into your calendar.

Council Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said every pet owner should have their pet microchipped.

“Microchipping is one of the best ways to help your pet get back to you if they do become lost. It’s a very quick process that can save pet owners a lot of heartache if their pet is handed into a vet clinic or our Animal Care and Adoption Centre,” Cr Soars said.

“It’s easy to bring your pet along to be microchipped. Just make sure your furry friend is registered with Council, then call Council on 13 48 10 to book your appointment.

“Microchipping will be held at the Animal Care and Adoption Centre, which is on Tompkins Rd at Shaw, between 9am and midday.”
