Structure Restoration Work
What works are coming up?
In December 2025, machinery and equipment arrived by barge and were transported to the project site under oversized load escort, including 24 piles measuring 18 metres each.
Townsville City Council plans to begin pile installation in early January 2026.
These works will cause disruption to nearby residents, businesses and visitors to the area. Depending on how close you are to the construction work, noise will be noticeable.
Piling work will create noise as we pre-drill holes and drive the piles into the ground. These types of work are often intense, and the noise and vibration can be intense too. This is all normal and expected during piling works.
When will the works take place?
Pile installation activities will take place from Thursday 8 January 2025 and are expected to take two weeks to complete, weather and project conditions permitting.
What will the works include?
As part of this stage, Council contractor, BMD Constructions will:
- bore 12 holes at pile locations
- drive 12 piles, 14 metres deep, into the ground
- splice 12 piles onto the lower piles driven first
- drive the attached upper piles to the design depth.
What does this mean for me?
If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:
- construction machinery and vehicle movement
- increased levels of dust, noise, and vibrations
- temporary traffic changes, including lane closures, minor traffic delays and reduced speed limits.
