Stormwater Drainage Upgrade
Council is continuing flooding and drainage improvement upgrades along Winifred Street.
With the first stage of the intersection work now complete, the project is progressing to the second stage: preliminary preloading works along the Ross River riverbank.
This project is part of Council’s stormwater Capital Works program, designed to address and improve drainage across Council’s networks, and raise the quality of life for residents.
As part of this project, Council will:
- establish a temporary path connecting Winifred Street to the Ross River to maintain pedestrian access
- establish a temporary track for construction vehicles
- remove approved trees and vegetation to enable construction access
- reinstate temporary vegetation upon completion of preloading activities in preparation for the final stage of the project
- undertake permanent vegetation replacement upon construction completion.
If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:
- diversion of shared path around the construction site
- construction machinery and vehicle movement
- increased levels of dust, noise, and vibrations
- temporary traffic changes, including road closures, detours, minor traffic delays and reduced speed limits
- on-site monitoring by Council’s Principal Arborist to manage environmental impacts and ensure vegetation removal remains minimal.
Project funded by Townsville City Council.
