Flying-Fox Management – Sprinkler Repairs and Nudging Activities

Townsville City Council will be undertaking repairs of canopy sprinklers at Dan Gleeson Memorial Gardens, Kirwan as part of flying-fox management at the park.

To undertake these works council will be undertaking more intensive ‘nudging’ works from approximately 5am to 8am daily.

These works form part of Council’s ongoing commitment to the ecologically sustainable management of flying fox roosts, undertaken in accordance with the Code of Practice – Ecologically Sustainable Management of Flying Fox Roosts.

As part of this project, Council will:

  • undertake approved flying-fox nudging management practices
  • undertake repair and use of canopy sprinklers
  • Council staff will oversee and manage any environmental impacts resulting from these operations.

If you visit in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

  • loud noises associated with disposal techniques
  • movement of small machinery in the park
  • operation of canopy sprinklers
  • increased activity from Council officers and contractors in the area
  • possible changes to flying-fox movement patterns during the works.
