Residents urged to plan ahead before predicted king tide

Townsville residents are urged to take precautions ahead of the predicted king tide this weekend.

The king tide is expected between Friday and Saturday and may effect low lying areas including South Townsville, Railway Estate, and along Hanran St and Ogden St in the CBD.

The tide is predicted to peak at 3.97m on Saturday night around 9.30pm.

Townsville Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair Cr Jenny Hill said new residents should talk to their neighbours for information on whether or not king tides impact the area.

“It is a good idea to talk to your neighbours to see if your property is impacted by flooding,” Cr Hill said.

“Residents should observe warnings and take precautionary action by moving items like cars and other things of value to higher ground.”

Cr Hill urged motorists to exercise caution around flooded roads.

“Please remain vigilant and note that some roads may be closed. Remember – if it's flooded, forget it,” Cr Hill said.
