Riverway upper lagoon is re-opened

Date published: 9 December 2022

Riverway’s upper lagoon is re-opened following a successful cladding upgrade as part of the Riverway Library Project.

The lagoon has re-opened right in time for school holidays and will help Townsville families beat the heat over the summer break.

The lower lagoon has been in use for the last two months and Mayor Jenny Hill said it was great to see Riverway Lagoons back fully open for the public to enjoy.

“We scheduled the works during the school term so it’s fantastic to have the upper lagoon available for the Christmas school holidays,” Cr Hill said.

“Our Riverway Lagoons cover an area in size of more than three Olympic swimming pools and with lifeguards on patrol daily they provide a year-round safe swimming environment.

“With the school holidays upon us it’s a great time for families to head out to Riverway and enjoy the lagoons, playgrounds or a leisurely walk along the Ross River.”

The Riverway Library is expected to open early next year.
