Riverway Lagoons

Closure Notice

Following the Australian Government’s new social distancing restrictions, Council has made the decision to close the following facilities to public in order to help slow the spread of coronavirus effective from 6pm, Wednesday 25 March 2020:

From 5pm, Friday 3 April the Loam Island Boat Ramp will be closed and motorised boats on Ross River (including Black Weir) are banned. Ross River will still be open to people who wish to kayak or paddle.

From 5pm, Monday 6 April all Castle Hill walking tracks will be closed. Castle Hill Road remains open for walkers and runners, however is closed to traffic and bikes.

Notice:

The BBQs along the boardwalk are temporarily closed. Please use the BBQs near the Upper Lagoon.

RIVERWAY ARTS CENTRE AND PINNACLES GALLERY

The Riverway Arts Centre, including Pinnacles Gallery, is still CLOSED due to damage from the unprecedented rain event in 2019.  The Riverway Arts Centre will remain closed until further notice until repairs have been completed and it is safe for public re-entry to the facility.

The Riverway Lagoons cover an area in size of more than three Olympic swimming pools. The lagoons are nestled among shady raintrees, with the picturesque Ross River providing a peaceful backdrop. The surrounding well established raintrees, together with the extensive overhangs of the Riverway Arts Centre roof and additional shade structures, provide a protected year-round safe swimming environment.

The two distinct lagoon areas vary in depth up to 2m. The upper lagoon is designed for more formal uses, including an area for swimming laps and specific areas for disabled and elderly access, with hand rails and suitable water levels. The lower lagoon is more relaxed and is an ideal place for the kids build sand castles and play in shallow water while the rest of the family can lounge on the timber decks in the shade.
