Tree Removal

Following the initial tree removal works carried out on Monday 21 July, the entrance to Queens Gardens on Gregory Street remains closed to foot traffic following a significant limb failure in a Milky Pine (Alstonia scholaris) located within the gardens.

Upon inspection, Council arborists identified internal decay and fungal growth compromising the structural integrity of the tree. Due to the high risk posed to the public, the tree was deemed unviable for retention.

Council regularly inspects trees in parks and gardens across the city. Where trees are assessed to be unsafe, appropriate remedial action or removal is carried out in line with Council’s Public Tree Management Policy.

We understand the important role trees play in our parks and appreciate the community’s understanding as we prioritise public safety.

The works will include:

  • remove the remaining tree branches and trunk
  • close the north-bound lane of Gregory Street fronting the Queens Gardens entrance
  • operate a crane and utilise a truck for removal, which will make some on-street parking at the Gregory Street entrance
    unavailable (refer to map below)

If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

  • construction machinery and vehicle movement
  • increased levels of dust, noise, and vibrations
  • footpath clotures and detours
  • temporary traffic changes, including lane and or on-street parking closures, minor traffic delays and reduced speed limits.
