Tree Maintenance

Council, in alignment with the Townsville Flying Fox Roost Management Plan, will undertake tree maintenance works on all identified trees adjacent to residential properties within the open space environment of Macarthur Park, Annandale.

Maintenance work will include the removal of designated branches and associated foliage to establish a buffer zone between residential properties and roosting flying-foxes.

As part of this project, Council will:

  • use a combination of noise and smoke to nudge flying-foxes from the works zone between 5am – 6:30am, Monday to Friday
  • removal of the tree branches, foliage and mulching
  • undertake complete maintenance of the landscape buffer zone, overseen by Council’s Environment team.

If you live nearby or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

  • construction machinery and vehicle movement
  • increased levels of dust, noise, and vibrations
  • temporary closure of sections of the park during the works.

Residents may book individual meetings with Council between 1-7pm on 27 or 28 August by contacting Council before close of business 26 August 2025.
