Aquatic Vegetation Management

Council is undertaking aquatic vegetation management in the Fairfield Freshwater Wetland and Sediment Basin in Idalia.
This project is part of Council’s ongoing commitment towards environmental management, which has identified the need to harvest the sediment basin while also removing exotic aquatic weeds and plants.

The works will include:

  • removal of identified aquatic plants and associated vegetation
  • removed vegetation will be turned into ground mulch for use on future Council projects

Council staff will oversee water quality and manage any environmental impacts resulting from these operations.

If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

  • construction machinery and vehicle movement
  • increased levels of dust, noise, vibrations and occasional odour
  • temporary traffic changes, including pathway closures, minor pedestrian delays and stockpiling of removed vegetation.

Project funded by Townsville City Council.
