Adapting to Coastal Change
Townsville City Council in partnership with the Queensland Government, is planning for coastal change via the Adapting to Coastal Change in Townsville project. -
Cleveland Bay Recycled Water Treatment Facility
This Recycled Water Treatment Facility will recycle up to 15ML a day to supply non-potable water for municipal use and hydrogen energy production in Townsville -
Floodplain Management Strategy
Flood hazards are a risk to our community, so this project was put in place in 2009 to improve services and plan for flooding. -
Haughton Pipeline Project
The Haughton Pipeline provides a bulk water supply link to the Burdekin Haughton Water Supply Scheme. -
Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct
Lansdown is Northern Australia’s foremost eco-industrial precinct for advanced manufacturing, processing, technology and emerging industries. -
Maintenance Dredging at Nelly Bay Harbour
Townsville City Council is responsible for maintenance of the canal sections in Nelly Bay Harbour. -
Reef Assist – Business Activation and Environmental Restoration
The Reef Assist Program provides jobs and upskilling for youth, First Nations peoples and other residents who became unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. -

Ingham Road Four-lane Upgrade
Townsville City Council plans to upgrade Ingham Road to four lanes between Enterprise and Mathers Streets. -
North Australia Arts Precinct
The North Australia Arts Precinct will showcase local culture and position Townsville as a leader in design, art and technology. -
North Queensland Simulation Park
NQ Spark is an innovative simulation facility and industry precinct that will deliver considerable economic benefits to the Townsville and Australian economies -
North Rail Yards
Will be an active and exciting precinct that provides use of the rail heritage buildings, retaining their key architectural form and historical elements. -
Townsville’s Living Coastlines – Space for Saltmarshes Project
This project aims to restore and enhance saltmarshes in Townsville, focusing on 69 hectares of degraded urban saltmarsh at Oonoonba and Bushland Beach.

Projects – Black Spot Funded
Every year, Council nominates a number of projects that are eligible to receive Black Spot funding from the Australian Government. -
Projects – Magnetic Island
$13.8 million will be invested this financial year on Magnetic Island on community infrastructure, renewal of water and wastewater assets to road projects. -
Projects – Suburban Water Security
Council’s 2021/22 Budget includes a $177 million investment in water infrastructure and services, continuing our strong focus on the city’s water security. -
Projects – Works for Queensland (W4Q)
Queensland Government's Works for Queensland (W4Q) program supports regional councils to undertake job-creating maintenance and minor infrastructure projects. -
Aquatic Weed Trial
Council in conjunction with CSIRO and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) are conducting aquatic weed management trials in Townsville. -
Bushland Beach Channel Naturalisation
This project will help address community concerns over the drain adjacent to Peggy Banfield Park in Bushland Beach and allow residents to provide feedback. -
Castle Hill Road & Stanley Street Slope Remediation
Townsville City Council plans to undertake rockfall protection and slope stabilisation remedial works along the Stanley Street cutting and Castle Hill Road. -
Mitchell, Gregory, and Eyre Street Pathway Upgrade
Townsville City Council is preparing to upgrade the paved pathway alongside Northward Shopping Village and the northern stretch of Gregory Street between Warburton and Mitchell Streets. -
Riverbank Restoration Project
Council has secured funding for riverbank restoration works in a variety of locations throughout Townsville. -
Roadside Wildlife Reflector (Virtual Fencing) Trial
A sequential warning system that alerts animals with sound and flashing lights before they cross the road as a vehicle’s headlights flash a reflector on a pole. -
Townsville Parking Expansion
Around 95 solar-powered parking meters are being installed across the city to improve the turnover of parking bays and the level of amenities.

Council is preparing to remove the Alma Bay pedestrian bridge deck on Magnetic Island. -

Anti-hooning measures are being rolled out across Townsville parks and open spaces. -
Picnic Bay Bypass Water Main
The Picnic Bay Reservoir that provides a potable water storage for Picnic Bay and other parts of Magnetic Island requires refurbishment and roof replacement. -
Riverway Drive Water Main Replacement

Townsville City Council is investing $45 million to duplicate the Ross River Dam to Douglas Water Treatment Plant (WTP) pipeline. -
Sturt Street Cutting Rockface Stabilisation
Council is undertaking essential stabilisation works to the rockface to minimise the risk of rock fall from existing escarpments to ensure community safety. -
Waterfront Promenade Stage 2
Townsville City Council is currently undertaking works to construct the new East End Boardwalk, located along the Ross Creek at Flinders Street East. -
Wellington Street Depot Redevelopment
Townsville City Council is redeveloping the existing Wellington Street Depot to improve the efficiency of Council’s operations and better serve the community.
