Townsville City Council is encouraging and supporting the tourism and event industry to grow their sustainability knowledge and build their resilience. The Queensland Government Department of Tourism and Sport is providing funding up to $2000 for eligible tourism and events businesses in Townsville to undertake:
- Eco-certification
- Sustainability training
- Business development courses
Benefits of the Program
The key objectives of the subsidy are to:
- Increase the number of tourism and events businesses with recognised tourism accreditation, and
- Increase the capabilities of tourism and events businesses across targeted areas to improve visitor experiences.
Eligibility Criteria
You must be a business that falls under the requirements of the subsidy guidelines (PDF, 494KB). The guidelines contain detailed information on applicant eligibility as well as the list of eligible accreditation/ training activities.
To be eligible for the subsidy, businesses must:
- primarily operate in the tourism and events industry in Queensland or be a Queensland Local Government Authority with a tourism operation
- employ fewer than 200 full-time equivalent employees
- have an established operating base in Queensland
- hold an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- be registered for goods and services tax (GST).
Local support for business undertaking certification
Smart Precinct NQ is delivering a new Eco Destination Business Program to support businesses committed to more in-depth business sustainability journeys. As part of a 4-week program, business will be provided business support with a cohort of other businesses in the Tourism and Events industry along with support provided toward achieving their chosen QLD Government Subsidy pathway.
